2. Unzip libpapago and copy libpapago.so, paste it inside NaviSEA folder.

3. Copy NaviSEA folder, paste it inside your storage card, root directory.

4. Install PAPAGO_X5SEA_0806_WWEMarket.apk via computer or apk installer.

Froyo update for Samsung I9000 Galaxy S delayed until October

If you were counting the days until the Froyo update hits the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S we have some bad news - you’ll have to count longer than expected. The update has been delayed in Spain and India and possibly other regions too.

There’s no official press release yet, instead the bad news trickled through Facebook (the Spanish page) and Twitter (the Samsung India account).

It’s not clear what other regions will have the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S delayed, but other European countries are probably affected too.

Anyway, the release date for the Froyo update has been moved to late October. The update will be available through Samsung Kies.

If you can't wait, there are other ways to update the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S to Android v2.2 Froyo. We've updated ours and so far it's been working quite well.

BLACKBERRY STORM 3 WITH BIGGEST SCREEN!

The BlackBerry Storm and its sequel didn't do so hot when RIM was trying to break into the touch phone market. But as they say, third time's the charm - the first BlackBerry Storm 3 photos hit the interwebs and they look like an improvement.

The BlackBerry Storm 3 reportedly has a bigger screen than its predecessors - 3.7" unit looks much roomier than the 3.25" screens on the Storm and Storm 2. There's no info on the resolution though, hopefully it's got a bump from the 360x480 pixels resolution of the previous versions.

The Storm 3 also features Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, says the rumor-mill, and 8GB of built-in memory. There's an optical trackpad this time around.

A leaked slide from July allegedly had info on the Storm 3 - BlackBerry OS 6 (and the WebKit browser it brings), 512MB RAM and support for microSD cards up to 32GB. The camera is listed as 5MP and there's Wi-Fi 802.11n support. SurePress is back too, even though it was dropped for the BlackBerry Torch 9800.

So far so good - but here's where things start getting iffy. Check out the slide - there doesn't seem to be a trackpad. And there's that gossip that the Storm2 we'll be actually getting an almost silent refresh (the one on the slide) so it stays as a current model, while the real BlackBerry Storm 3 is the device pictured in hand above. So for now, take everything with a big pinch of salt.

APPLE iPHONE 4 IN CHINA SET?

China Unicom will be launching Apple's popular mobile device, the Apple iPhone 4 for the Chinese market on 25 September 2010. The device is currently equipped with both 3G and WiFi. It appears that China Unicom has relaxed their policy to encourage China's homegrown wireless standard - WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI). According to Reuters, China Unicom will offer the 16GB iPhone 4 with a two year contract at 3,899 yuan (1 yuan = RM0.46) and a monthly fee of 96 yuan. Similarly, the device is free if the subscriber opts for a two-years plan while paying 286 yuan monthly fees. Alternatively, buyer could purchase the phone without contract at the price of 4,999 yuan for the 16GB model and 5,999 yuan for the 32GB model. These devices could also be purchased from Apple stores in China.

HTC has posted the specification sheet of the upcoming T-Mobile G2 on their official site. The device is running on Android 2.2 (Froyo) with an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM 7230 processor. Other features include a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with 480x800 resolution, 4GB ROM, 512 RAM, 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth support. The device also comes with a 1,300 mAh battery which provides up to 590 minutes of talk time on a GSM network. The phone is expected to be released soon.

The new BlackBerry Curve 3G may not be the most exciting BlackBerry that has been in the media lately but it does have some nice new features compared to its predecessor the BlackBerry Curve 8520.

The obvious and main one is that it now supports 3G, as the name suggests, which will be great for downloading apps, uploading photos and surfing the web.

Is the 9300 a worthy follow on and should you buy one if you are looking for a new smartphone? Only one way to find out and that is to read the review.

The latest Nokia X3 sidesteps that tidily by offering both a touch screen and a traditional 12-button keypad. This is the first phone from Nokia to offer such a combination. Despite two sets of controls, though, the X3 Touch and Type is one of Nokia’s thinnest devices: it’s 9.6mm deep, 106mm tall, 48mm wide and weighs just 78g. It packs brushed aluminum cover and a standard alphanumeric keypad. The Nokia X3-02 also packs excellent connectivity with WLAN, 3G with HSPA, Bluetooth and micro USB all on board. The music fans will also appreciate the 3.5mm audio jack.

The main features of the new Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type is a 2.4-inch touchscreen display with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA). Opera has just introduced the latest version of the Opera Mini for devices based on the aging Windows Mobile platform. Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile brings about only a handful of improvements but those are still enough to make it worth downloading.

How To Find Nokia E5

Google music service has iTunes in sight

Reuters reported that Google's VP of engineering Andy Rubin had has been conducting talks with record labels. Record insiders are excited about the possibility of Apple and Google challenging each other on the digital music front.

According to the publication's sources, Google's music service is set to launch "before Christmas". However, Google has yet to sign a deal with record labels yet.

Music is the latest battleground for Google as Apple has held a 7 year control with iTunes, which holds 70 percent of all U.S. digital music sales. But with Google claiming to activate 200,000 devices a day, they might already have a foothold in the digital music market.

"Finally here's an entity with the reach, resources and wherewithal to take on iTunes as a formidable competitor by tying it into search and Android mobile platform. What you'll have is a very powerful player in the market that's good for the music business," said an anonymous record label executive.

Nokia X6 vs iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 and the Nokia X6 are pretty similar in that they have 5-megapixel cameras, are 3.5G and Wi-Fi capable and have 32GBs of memory. Of course, Apple also has a 16GB version of the iPhone 4.

The X6 runs the Symbian 9.4 OS whilst the Apple runs on the iPhone OS4. Frankly, except for minor differences in the specifications, both these devices are almost the same from a technical point of view.

It bewilders us that the iPhone 4 is two and the half times the price of the Nokia X6 simply because of the brand. I would probably for the lower-priced Nokia if I had to choose. It doesn't make sense to pay that much more for the iPhone 4 unless the whole idea is to simply proclaim that one can afford the expensive toy.

Nokia E5 vs Nokia E72

The Nokia E72 and Nokia E5 are Blackberry-type full Qwerty keyboard devices in the Nokia E-Series devices. The E-Series is commonly used to denote Enterprise class devices which are designed with the business user in mind.

Just as the E72 is the successor model to the E71, so the E5 succeeds the E72. Surprisingly, the newer E5 has an inferior battery, 1200 mAh versus the 1500 mAh of the E72, subsequently the talk time rating has dropped but the standby time has increased. Is it possible that a way has been found to make the device consume less power on standby? We really don't think so.

Both the phones are identical in almost every way, running the Symbian 9.3 OS and utilising 5-megapixel cameras with almost identical features across the board. However, the E72 has a front camera for video calls.

The screen of the E72 is a 16M colour type and the screen of the E5 is a 256K colour type. Include the front-facing camera and it is obvious why the E72 costs a little bit more than the newer E5. It would then come down to whether you want to pay a little but more for a couple of extra features.

Option 1: Install and launch MMCPWD application. it will display some special characters including your password.(MMCPwd.sis)

Option 2: locate mmcstore file. install and launch System Explorer or FExplorer application. go to c:\system\ and open (using unicode/hex editor) the mmcstore file. it will display your password. NOTE: you can also copy the mmcstore file to any folder of your phone memory, rename it to mmcstore.txt and open it without using any unicode/hex editor).

Option 3:

1. open up fe explorer thingy.
2. Go to C:\system\ folder and locate a file called mmcStore. Scroll down till you find it.
3. Copy it to C:\nokia\others
4. highlight it
5. click options
6. FILE>RENAME
7. IT should turn blue: right click then write ".txt" (should look like "MMCSTORE.txt"
8. try to open it, (that should be your password, if nothing happens then go to 9.)
9. connect phone to pc
10. Open the file from C:\NOKIA\OTHERS\MMCSTORE
11. copy the file to your desktop
12. open with Windows notepad/ microsoft word
13. that should be your password

The Android vs. Apple battle has officially made its way into the world of tablets.

Samsung took the wraps off its new Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet on Thursday. The Galaxy Tab is a 7-inch slate built to complete with the current tablet king, Apple's thus-far-unchallenged iPad.

Sure, there have been a couple other Android tablets on the market already (see Streak, Dell), but the Galaxy Tab is the first that truly qualifies as a contender.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Tab is smaller and lighter (though rumors suggest a couple of larger editions will debut before the year's end). It has the same speed processor but twice the RAM. Like the iPad, the Galaxy Tab comes with different options for internal storage. It also, however, supports up to 32GB of expandable storage; Apple's device is limited to the internal space only.

The Galaxy Tab has two cameras -- a rear-facing 3.2-megapixel camera and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting -- while the current models of the iPad have none. Samsung claims up to 7 hours of video playback for the Galaxy Tab; Apple says its iPad can last up to 10 hours.

In terms of software, the Galaxy Tab's Android 2.2 operating system gives the device a number of selling points Apple's iPad can't claim, including full-featured multitasking, support for Adobe Flash, and unrestricted access to applications (Apple is notorious for censoring all sorts of material -- ranging from political satire to swimsuit-clad women -- and also for banning apps that provide functions such as free tethering and customization of the operating system).

Iaitu tutorial bagaimana engkorang nak install software Garmin di dalam handset korang, especially yang pakai handset symbian yang support Garmin ni. Maaf yer bro man HTC tak tuntut lagi. N95 ko bleh punya pakai. Kalau korang jenis taknak bazirkan duit..WAJIB BACA!

Mungkin entri ini agak panjang. Memang panjang pun sebab tutorial bahasa melayu yang tak de orang la rajin gatai-gatai nak buat. Ni pun dah lama jadi perkasam baru aku publish. Ok 1^st sekali korang kena ada cable nokia yang boleh connect dengan handphone korang via pc suite or mass storage mode. Kalau tak de cable memang susah la. N95 cable dia aku banyakla. Sebab external2 aku semua pakai cable camtu. Haha. Nampak gayanya aku kene buat bullet and numbering ni bagi Nampak step-step tersebut. Sebelum tu nak peringatkan korang garmin ni yang real punya memang harga die rm688 jual di pc fair. Kalau kamu nak install di kedai sekurang-kurangnya rm60-rm80 untuk kamu boleh pakai di handphone. Alangkah membazirnya. Sedangkan kamu mampu install sendiri. Aku juga fakap maut link rapidshare zshare dan sangkut paut mengom dan sewaktu dengannya.

Download software garmin ni (garmin software)
Kemudian kamu cucuk @ connect kan cable dengan handphone kamu dan setkannya dalam mode mass storage*.
Kamu double klik @ klik to setup software garmin yang kamu download tersebut dan masih dalam mode mass storage* kemudian ikut langkah di bawah.
Setelah kamu installkan nya eject handphone kamu kemudian masuk ke file manager di handphone cari dalam storage memori kad kamu . Kemudian cari file GarminMobileXT.sis* dan installkannya walaupun masa installation ada cannot support ape tah lagi poyo jer. Teruskan!
Setelah selesai installkannya, cari application tersebut dalam handphone kamu dan buka application tersebut setup jer (yang penting Distance/Speed kamu pilih Metric bukan statue)*
Pada mulanya sound direction dan maps masih lagi kosong. Teruskan masuk ke dalam application tersebut. Pilih tools, kemudian setting, cari about. Di situ terdapat unit @ card id* yang merupakan serial number korang untuk dapatkan key untuk crack kan garmin korang. Simpan nombor tersebut.
Untuk dapatkan serial key. Kamu perlu download keygen tersebut di sini (keygen garmin). Kemudian masukkan unit id kamu dan klik generate pada software product dan bukan maps ye. Jangan sentuh apa2 yang maps tersebut. Setelah dapatkan id generate tersebut, kamu perlu create file notepad kosong paste kan nombor tersebut dalam notepad tersebut dan save as (setting type all files) bagi nama file tersebut sw.unl*. Ingat! Mesti sw.unl*. Selepas itu kamu perlu copy file tersebut dan connectkan handphone kamu dalam mode mass storage dan paste kan di dalam foder Garmin dalam memori kad kamu. Itu saja. Jangan buat lebih dari ni.
Kamu eject dan buka sekali lagi application tersebut. Sudah Berjaya di crack! Klik Agree sahaja. Dah boleh access software garmin tersebut fully crack di dalam handphone symbian kamu. Ha mesti kamu lupa tentang sound direction dan maps garmin kan? Mana nak dapatkannya? Kini ada jalan mudah.
Kamu perlu melayari website ini untuk mendapatkan latest garmin maps yang sememangnya website ini selalu update untuk kemudahan kita. Malfreemaps memang superb web untuk cari maps garmin. Apa kata kamu layari web tersebut untuk dapatkan latest maps dari malfreemaps. (klik sini).

Kalau keluar ayat “ do u want to copy it into gps device…” klik no. Lepas tu ade keluar pop up keluar suruh off kan u-turn dalam routing-avoidance setup-untick pada U-Turns-DONE!
Locate file maps korang set kan tadi install kat d ke mane2 la. Dalam malfreemaps foder korang cari file nama gmapsupp.img*. Tu saja, file lain ignore jer. File tersebut dalam lingkungan 57mb la. Copy file tersebut ke dalam garmin folder di memori kad handphone anda. (Transferkan guna mode mass storage).
Kemudian kamu perlu download sound direction. Aku saja letak satu jer. English American (file kecik jer) supaya kamu mudah. (Klik disini). Extract file zip tersebut menggunakan winzip atau winrar. Copy folder voice tersebut dan paste kan dalam folder garmin didalam memori kad handphone kamu. Itu saja. [Garmin/Voice]
Sekarang handphone anda sudah boleh beroperasi seperti gps navigator seperti garmin nuvi di atas jalan raya. Ingat garmin susah nak access dalam banguna. Go out la dari rumah. Sebelum tu nak peringatkan bagi pengguna handphone symbian yang ade gps pada handphone. Pergi tools-setting-system-pilih use attached/built in GPS-dan klik enable-done. Di sini ada sedikit penambahan aksesori garmin iaitu dinamakan Custom POI. (Klik link ni) dan korang download. Selepas download install sama cara macam install maps tadi. Locate file korang install tu. Time select kompenen tu pilih Mobile XT(no audio)*. Locate file tersebut, copy satu folde POI tu paste jer dalam folder garmin kat memori kad handphone korang. DONE! (Lupa nak bagitau custom poi ni akan detect di mana tempat yang ada speed trap, pasar malam, touch n go reloads dan sebagainya mengikut update web tersebut).
Untuk penambahan vehicle @ kenderaan pada gps direction korang boleh klik link ni. (vehicle). Create folder nama vehicle-masukkan semua file download tersebut dan pastekan dalam folder garmin dalam handphone korang. [Garmin/Vehicle] . Done! iPhone 4 Will be Delayed Due to Overwhelming Response

On the first day of the iPhone 4 preorders, Apple has already received up to 600,000 orders, the largest single day of preorders ever! Unfortunately though, although it’s good to hear that I’m not the only huge fan of this generation of iPhone, it means that the initial launch will be delayed to 2 July 2010 from its original 24 June launch date. Apple said that the number exceeded their expectation and thus, resulted in some system malfunctions and many customers left due to frustration. I hope this won’t affect the International launch; September is already way too far away.

Nokia shares plunge on Q2 profits warning

Shares in Nokia were down 10 percent in US trading yesterday as the world's largest handset vendor issued its second profits warning in less than two months. Nokia said profit margins at its key Devices and Services unit would be at the lower-end of its forecasts, or below, in the second quarter and in 2010, citing tougher competition, particularly at the high-end of the market, and shifts in its product mix toward lower grossing products. It had previously said its operating margin would be in the range of 9 percent to 12 percent in 2Q10. It also now expects net sales at the unit to drop to the lower end, or slightly below, the predicted figure of EUR6.7 billion to EUR7.2 billion for Q2. It stated that the reason for the revision was a drop in the predicted volume of sales for mobile devices and lower than expected average selling prices. Nokia also said it expected its share of the global mobile devices market in terms of value to fall this year, when it previously had targeted a slight increase year-on-year. According to a Reuters report, Nokia shares fell to their lowest level since March 2009 in response to the news. Its shares have dropped around 20 percent so far this year.

"Investors are worried about Nokia's long-term market position. Nokia loses market shares at the high-end, the mix worsens and margins go down. At the high-end, Nokia loses mainly against Apple," Inge Heydorn, asset manager at Sentat Asset Management, told Reuters. The news agency notes that the second profit warning in as many months will pile further pressure on Nokia's CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo (pictured), who has been heavily criticised by shareholders. Kallasvuo is under fire as Nokia's share price has missed the market recovery and the company has not been able to build a formidable rival to the iPhone in more than three years. "Nokia has, considering the competition, one of its weakest product portfolios ever," said Swedbank analyst Jari Honko. Nokia will provide its Q2 results and more detail on its 2010 full year outlook when it announces its Q2 results on 22 July.

Apple iPhone 3GS vs Samsung Wave

We will take the evergreen iPhone 3GS which runs the Apple OS and put it up against Samsung’s new Wave phone. The Samsung Wave is the first of its kind to use Samsung’s new Bada OS. ‘Bada’ means wave in Korean.
The camera on the Samsung Wave is a 5-megapixel one whereas the camera on the iPhone 3GS is a 3-megapixel one. The Super AMOLED screen of the Samsung Wave should outdo the iPhone, since it uses Samsung’s digital TV technology of a couple of years ago. We do know that the resolution of the Wave is higher at 800 x 480 pixels vs the 320 x 480 pixels of the iPhone.

The iPhone has more memory at 16 or 32GB versions while the Bada is sold in the 2 or 8GB variations.

The difference in service is that the iPhone offers more than 100,000 apps in the Apple AppStore, most of which will cost money to download, whereas the Bada Store is relatively newer. It will take a bit of time before Samsung applications catch up with what Apple’s AppStore has to offer.

We would guess that the Samsung Wave will retail at around two-thirds the price of the iPhone 3GS. The branding of the iPhone has really put a crimp in the style of the other manufacturers. Gone are the days when flagship devices such as the Samsung Wave would enter the market for nothing less than RM 2,500.

The iPad so far has split opinions right down the middle. – Is it closer to a netbook or an e-reader? Does it have word processing capability? If so, how would I type? What about entertainment? It’s a medley of questions for one of Apple’s great leap forward. And its purchase will warrant some serious thinking, when it does drop into Malaysian market.

Design

The iPad is a touchscreen tablet, with three models that connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi (16GB for USD $499 USD, 32GB for $599 USD and 64GB for $699 USD). And three that use a combination of Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G wireless (16GB for $629 USD, 32GB for $729 USD, and 64GB for $829 USD, and a data subscription).

The device has a 9.7 inch diagonal screen, with a 1024x768-pixel resolution backlit by LEDs. Screen angles are very good, standing or sitting won’t affect the display of the iPad. The device’s dimensions are 242.8mm x 189.7mm x 13.4mm, about the size of a magazine.

The one we have on-hand is the 16GB running on Wi-Fi, the device is entirely touch based, and Apple has retained their button format for their mobile devices – a home screen button, a volume rocker and a unlock button.

The iPad has one additional button, the screen rotation lock, trigger it and the page you are looking at will lock to either horizontal or vertical orientation. It is a welcomed addition, especially if you use the iPad lying down, the onboard accelerometer has trouble reading the orientation.

The iPad runs on the same OS on iPhone and iPod Touch, and the iPad will be hands-on if you’ve used any of those devices. In a nutshell, the iPad runs apps, web browsing, email, maps, photos, music, video, YouTube, and the list goes on. The App Store built in the OS will act as the portal to buy and install apps.

The iPad on its own doesn’t make calls, but with apps like Skype and with native Bluetooth support, VoIP calls are supported.

The custom Apple 1GHz A4 processor has some power, but isn’t adequate when running apps – especially games. Battery life is impressive, perhaps owing to its larger size, but the standby time and use time is every bit as Apple claimed and more.

E-reader

The iPad marks Apple's first step into the world of e-book readers. The iBooks app (a free app), is an e-bookstore with bestsellers and textbooks. Just like iTunes, titles in the store are organised by popularity and by genre.

Preview a few pages before deciding on a purchase, and downloaded books will be arranged into a bookshelf. Reading in portrait will display one page, meanwhile landscape mode will show both pages. The text size and font style can be tweaked to your heart’s delight.

Comic book fans should rejoice at the Marvel app, the comic browser is a store and reader meshed into one. And much like iBooks, the titles are organised by genre, and writers. You can also preview before buying, and Marvel threw in a few choice titles for free as well.

It works similar to iBooks, flick a finger to the edge of the ‘page’ will turn your comic pages either forward of backwards. Double tap on each individual comic panel to zoom in, double tap to zoom out. Reading and browsing comics (free or otherwise) will require an account.

At 680 grams, the iPad is hefty, requiring a surface, something to prop up the tablet or a two-hand grasp for extended reading.

iWork

Remember when we asked whether this device bridged the gap between e-readers and netbooks, well Apple threw in iWork apps like Pages (word processing), Numbers (spreadsheets), and Keynote (presentations). It's the first version of the software to run on one of Apple's portable devices and makes full use of the iPad's touch screen. Each app is offered separately at $9.99 per app.

Working on the iPad, is a mixed blessing, the apps themselves are as full-fledged as their desktop counterparts (read: Microsoft office). The apps are capable of editing Office documents too.

The iPad is not the most natural tool for work output, even with the full virtual QWERTY keyboard - the largest one we’ve worked with. While it is intuitive, and does have huge keys, we still find a physical keyboard much easier and faster to work with.

Typing will require the iPad to be placed on a surface, or propping it up with one arm and type with a free hand. Apple does have hardware solutions - Apple's keyboard dock or Bluetooth keyboard accessory. Syncing documents to and from the iPad will require iTunes, and sharing documents around will be a pain.

To answer whether or not it will serve as a primary work computer – yes, if you are determined and patient enough to get use to the syncing and typing.

Multimedia

The iPad has iPod functionality, access to Youtube and a built-in Videos app to start off the multimedia functions.

HD quality videos are especially enjoyable with the iPad’s screen. Apple still limits the iPad with mpeg-4 formats, so convert those videos before syncing them in. Audio quality is no different from the iPhone or iPod, offering good audio quality. Throwing in quality headphones will improve your experience as well.

Photo albums are supported by multi-touch, every photo folder can be expanded using the pinch movement. The expanded thumbnails can be preview and tapping those thumbnails will blow the photos up to full screen. The photos can be flipped through.

With Apple’s strategy to turn its mobile devices into gaming platform, the iPad receives the same treatment. The app store has thousands of games scaled to fit the iPad. We tested out Iron Man 2 and Dungeon Hunter, and we enjoyed good graphics and response time from the iPad. There will be a sense of frustration when working the touch controls. But expect to spend an entire afternoon grinding away at the numerous titles available in the App store.

Verdict

When we were done with the iPad, we can’t answer what exactly is the iPad. But it will suit a multitude of needs, be it music, work or videogames. To justify buying one? Just take your pick. The one thing we can answer, it will be one of the most coveted and talked about gadgets of this year.

NOKIA N8 SMARTPHONE

The 10th Nokia Connection event held in Singapore today, Nokia showcased for the Nokia’s latest smartphone, the Nokia N8, right before CommunicAsia 2010.

The device is powered by Symbian ^3, the Nokia N8 supports gestures such as flick scrolling and pinch-zoom and offers multiple, personalised home screens which can be loaded with apps from Ovi Store.

From the renders, the device looks like a giant capacitive 3.5 inch screen with 16M colours attached with a home button. With a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, the Nokia N8 offers the ability to record HD-quality videos and editing.

The device supports quad-band GSM connectivity, with Wi-Fi, EDGE, EDGE and HSDPA. There’s a 5 megapixel on-board camera with a 4x digital zoom, with a LED flash. With a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, there’s also the option to record HD-quality videos and edit them with an intuitive built-in editing suite.

The Nokia N8 is expected to be available in select markets during the 3rd of 2010 with an estimated retail price of EUR 370 before taxes and subsidies.

Motorola has confirmed that it’s bringing the Motoroi XT720 to Europe, albeit under a different name: Motorola Milestone XT720.

The Milestone XT720 has just been announced in the UK as the first Android smart phone to feature Xenon flash. NOKIA RESPON ABOUT DROPPING SYMBIAN FROM NSERIES BY 2012

It looks like the Maemo marketing team at the Nokia N900 London meetup got a little excited and said something they shouldn’t have. Ben Smith from The Really Mobile Project wrote that the team revealed on Wednesday that Nokia plans to drop Symbian from the Nseries line of devices in favour of Maemo by 2012. I’ve reached out to Nokia for comment and they say that the speculations are “completely premature.”

This is the official response from Nokia’s corporate communications,

“While it is our policy not to disclose details of our product roadmap, we’d like to explicitly communicate that we remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice. Any speculation on what our 2012 roadmap, including operating systems and product branding, are completely premature.

As we have stated earlier, Nokia has multiple platforms to serve different purposes and address different markets. Symbian is more successful than ever in bringing smartphones to the masses. HOW TO CHANGE YOUR NOKIA E71 PRODUCT CODE

So, as you’ve likely seen, the Nokia E71 NAM has now received this latest firmware update, v200.21.118. As you’ve also likely gathered, it’s only for the 0559585 product code, while the 0569371 product code is languishing behind with the older v100 firmware. Ricky Cadden, the Symbian Guru, quotes his contact as saying that the 0569371 is a country variant, and the 0559585 is the vanilla product code, hence the difference.

If you don’t really care what product code you have, but are frustrated with being stuck with old firmware, worry not - here’s a quick walkthrough on how you can easily change the product code on your Nokia E71 to the 0559585 one, to get timely firmware updates.

Please note that ‘officially’, changing the product code voids your warranty. However, with this tutorial you could easily change it back, should you need any warranty work done, so don’t sweat it. Also, you’ll probably want to start out with a freshly hard reset E71. You can do this by pressing *#7370 from the standby screen. Please note that hard resetting your phone will erase EVERYTHING you have stored on it (your memory card, however, is safe). You should backup any important information before proceeding. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

Now, you’ll want to download NSS, also known as Nemesis Service Suite. You can get this here: Nemesis Service Suite. You’ll want to install that on your computer before continuing. It should work just fine in either Windows XP or Vista, but I wouldn’t suggest using NSS in a virtual machine, such as VMware or similar.

Here’s the steps:

1. Connect your E71 to your computer with the USB cord, and put it in ‘PC Suite’ mode.

2. Launch NSS, and click on the little magnifying glass in the top right corner of the window. This should find your phone and display some information about it.

3. Now, click on the ‘Phone Info’ button, and wait a minute for it to read your phone’s information. You should now click on the ‘Read’ button to have the various fields filled in with the appropriate information.

4. Now, click on the Product Code entry field, and change it to 0559585, check the ‘Enable’ box, and then click on ‘Write’.

Your product code has now been changed. You can disconnect your phone, and then reconnect and follow steps 1-3 again to verify, if you wish. Now, you can run the regular Nokia Software Update to get the latest firmware for your phone.

You don’t have to worry about forgetting what the original Product Code was for your phone, because it’s printed on the label underneath the battery. Should you need warranty work done, simply follow these steps, but use the old product code instead.

Nokia N79 Review – multimedia device

Sorry about the long review, there is just so much to meantion! The Nokia N79 is a brand new mobile phone by Nokia and is apart of the N-series family. The N79 mobile phone is stylish and trendy handset which is a smart silver colour and comes available with three different Xpress-on smart covers. The user can change their mobile phone to suit their personality or to just reflect their mood and the screen will intuitively match the chosen coloured smart cover combinations. The colours available include, Canvass white with light Sea blue/ Espresso brown/ Olive green or Seal grey with Espresso brown/Coral red and white. The Nokia N79 mobile phone comprises a large 2.4 inch QVGA screen (320 x 240 resolution) displaying up to16 million colours with light sensor. The user can also benefit from the colour and brightness control, orientation sensor and the ambient light detector provided with the Nokia N79 mobile phone. The N79 handset is a nice size, dimensions are 110mm x 49mm x 15mm and weighs in at a light 97g, which is fantastic considering all the technology that is jam packed into it. The user can expect to gain up to a maximum of 5 hours and 30 minutes of talk time and up to 372 hours of stand by time with one single charge up of the battery.

There are a great number of call features that the user can enjoy using, some of which include, Automatic answer with headset or car kit, side volume keys, Push-to-Talk, Conference calling with up to 6 participants, Enhanced voice dialling and VoIP to name only a few.
Nokia N79 – Camera & Imaging

The Nokia N79 mobile phone comes equipped with a built-in 5 mega-pixel camera (2584 x 1938 pixels) which features so many fantastic imaging functions which include, CMOS sensor, Carl Zeiss optics, Tessar Lens, an amazing 20x digital zoom, auto-focus with 2 stage capture key, Duel LED flash and flash modes that can be, On, Off, Automatic or with Red-Eye reduction. There are so many features on this fantastic mobile phone that will enable the user to really capture a superb snap shot with other features including, Scene Modes; automatic, manual, close up, portrait, landscape, sport, night portrait and night. Light sensitivity Modes; high, medium, low and automatic, Colour tone Modes; normal, sepia, black & white, vivid and negative. There is a dedicated camera key making it easier for the user to use all the features and functions. The N79 mobile phone also comes with a slide cover not only for protection but for camera activation.

Once you have snapped your photo you can edit it using the Photo editor software provided with the Nokia N96. If you want to share it with friends and family simple take advantage of the Nokia Xpress share and transfer programs provided. Viewing photos is easy with the rotating gallery Navi wheel support.
Nokia N79 – Video Imagery

Now to the video capture mode on the Nokia N79 mobile phone. The main camera will record videos in VGA up to 640 x 480 pixels and up to 30/fps with an 8x digital video zoom. The front camera features a 2x digital zoom. The video camera records in MP4, 3GP, H.263 & H.264 file formats. Again, there is a vast selection of video features enabling the user to capture video footage in the best way possible. The user can optimise the footage by adjusting the Scene modes, Colour tone modes and Video white balance modes settings. There is RealPlayer™ function and Real time video sharing with other compatible users with this particular capability along with video streaming.
Nokia N79 – Music Player

The N79 mobile phone comes equipped with a digital music player that supports popular music formats such as, MP3, WMA, AAC, eAAC & eAAC+ formats. There are dedicated volume keys allowing the user to control the 3D sound effect stereo speakers with ease. The N79 mobile phone also features a built-in FM stereo radio with RDS support and visual radio support. The music player also offers it users Playlists, Equaliser, Selection by artist, Album & Genre, Album graphics display and Skins. The Nokia E75 is the latest Nokia Smartphone is rumoured to be announced at the mobile world congress. There have been pictures of what is thought to be the E75 leaked onto the internet it looks like a candy style phone with QWERTY keyboard and with a glossy black casing.

Nokia have created the E75 and the E72, which is also rumoured to be announced, as business phones Quiet like the blackberry. Nokia's E45 has a 2.4 inch screen with 320 x 240 pixel resolutions it has a slide out QWERTY key board so you can type texts or emails more easily. If you want to stay in touch with your business by email or internet then the E75 is rumoured to have Nokia web browsing, WI FI, GPRS and HSDPA all of which will help you get speedy connection to the internet. Another great business tool would be the office document viewer, allowing you to view or send work documents instantly and a dedicated email key to sent messages with ease. You won't get lost on your way to a meeting with the AGPS and Nokia maps rumoured to be built in so you can keep one step ahead.

Keep in touch with message formats which could include SMS, MMS, Email, IM and text-to-speech reader. Don't miss a call as the Nokia E75 should cover quad-band GSM850/900/1800/1900 and dual-band WCDMA900/2100 so you should be able to use your phone in most countries.

Well we at mobilefonereviews think if the Nokia E75 has all these rumoured specifications and more it will be a great business tool even though the QWERTY keyboard does look a bit cramped. The price is rumoured to be around £400 to £600 so we will just have to wait and see what happens at the mobile world congress.

Revealing the Headphone and Car-Kit menus

Please note that if you do these next tricks, the new menus can't be erased without retoring the factory default settings. To do these tricks you need to short-circuit the pins on the bottom of the phone next to where you plug in you charger.

1. To activate the "Headset" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "3" and "4". After a short time the word "Headset" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-6 is now enabled.

2. To activate the "Car" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "4" and "5". After a short time the word "Car" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-7 is now enabled.

THE REBOOT TRICK

This should work on all software versions of the 6110.

1. Go to the Calendar (Menu-8)

2. Make a note or reminder.

3. Enter some text into the edit box.

4. Hold "Clear" until the whole text is cleared, then press "Back".

5. Press "0". The main screen will now be showing but a space appears on the screen. (you can't see it)

6. Enter 4 digits (e.g. 1234).

7. Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the left side of the numbers and the space (Down arrow twice).

8. Now enter 6 digits and press the call button.

Wait for a few seconds, the screen should start to flash and reboots. It should alsowork on other menus like the "Profiles" menu.

EFR CALL QUALITY

To activate EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) Enter the code-

THE JAMES BOND TRICK

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

NETWORK MONITOR

There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.

1.

Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
2.

Take apart the phone.
3.

De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
4.

Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
5.

If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
6.

If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
7.

Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
8.

Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.

Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.

This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

Someone reported us that some Nokia 6110 remain
dead if you run out of battery while the phone has its keyboard locked.
Nokia seems to be aware of this bug and
hopefully will be correct in next software version (6110i maybe ??).

The Finland giant Nokia silently released the highly expected and speculated Nokia N82 Black version. The phone appeared nowhere else but in the USA Nokia online store with an "Unlocked" status. The sleek Nokia N82 Black version is already available for purchase at a price of $629.00 with free shipping for USA.

Let's refresh your memory with the Nokia N82 main features, starting with the HSDPA with video calls and quad-band GSM support. The 100MB of integrated memory is complemented by the microSD memory slot. The 2.4" 16M color QVGA TFT display is among the other highlights.

Nokia N82, a phone we reviewed in detail, is pretty much identical in hardware to the N95. It has 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, capable of capturing 30fps MPEG4 videos at VGA resolution, and has a TV-out port to watch those on your TV set.

The most significant difference to the Nokia N95 is however the built-in xenon flash which highlights the photo-centric nature of the Nokia N82, as well as the screen auto rotation.

You also have built-in GPS receiver that works with Nokia Maps. Compatibility with third-party software is not confirmed yet.

Meanwhile Nokia released three new titles from the new N-Gage platform. They may not be much but it seems to us as if the official start of the N-gage is just around the corner. After all it was about time as Nokia have been promising it for quite a while now.

The three new titles are: Space Impact: Kappa Base, System Rush: Evolution and Creatures of the deep. However, as we managed to confirm only the first was somewhat amusing. At this stage the games are only compatible with Nokia N81 (it's good that we have one around) but soon the other N-Gage enabled devices owners will be able to enjoy them.

The Nokia N73 is a quad band GSM world phone which will work anywhere GSM service is available. Design and Ergonomics

The N73 is one of Nokia's more normal looking smartphones. It has a straightforward candy bar design and an absolutely standard keypad. It looks more at home with recent MS Smartphones like the T-Mobile SDA and Cingular 2125 than the Nokia N80, N91 or N93. Like the SDA and 2125, a large QVGA display dominates the front face, and while the phone may lack the sexy looks of the N80 or the stainless steel machismo of the N91, the display itself is so eye-catching it gives the entire phone a turn to the stunning. Since normalcy abounds, the phone has a standard keypad with roomy blue backlit keys, a perfectly conformist 5 way joystick that's surrounded by the usual smartphone cluster of 2 softkeys and the call send and end keys. The application launcher, pencil, clear and multimedia applications launcher keys wrap around the keypad in the bright silver surround. All are easy to access and we're thankful the ever-important application launcher wasn't relegated to a side location as with the Nokia N91.
